Founder of Camper Camper
Camper Camper started with a simple desire: to build campervans that feel like home. This is the journey from a disappointing van in Iceland and one big dream, to the company we are building today.
Where it all began
It all started with a trip to Iceland. The scenery was incredible, but the campervan wasn't. I remember thinking: I could build something better than this. That one thought changed everything.
One big risk
So I took a massive risk. I left the family business and bought a van. I built it, and it sold almost immediately. The demand was real, and there was no going back.
Escape Conversions is born
I rented a dusty old barn at a local farm and decided to give it a go full time. No fancy workshop, no machinery, just a set of tools and a lot of belief. But the customers kept coming.
Five years in the barn
Five years of grafting in that barn. Learning, improving, and building vans we'd be proud to own ourselves. Eventually we outgrew it; my office was literally built on top of my sheet rack.
A bigger workshop, a new name
So we moved into a bigger workshop and became Camper Camper. We kept investing: a better workshop, an online store, CNC machinery and, most importantly, a really good team.
Our biggest mistake
Then we made our biggest mistake. We ran campervan competitions, and there were nights I genuinely wondered whether we'd lose everything we'd built. I've never forgotten that feeling.
Funny how things work out
The very competitions that nearly finished us also gave us our first rental van. When the winner chose the cash alternative, Meeko stayed with us and became the first van in the Camper Camper Hire fleet. Soon after, Kiona joined the family when one of our previous customers decided to sell her.
On the road
We've built hundreds of campervans, launched our rental fleet and grown an amazing team, and honestly, we're still only getting started. Whether you've followed us since the barn or you've only just found us, thank you. The best is still to come. See you on the road.
